Why do people pray to Lord Ganesha before praying to any other God?

Lord Ganesha also known as Ganpati is one of the most famous gods in India. He is not only given a priority on one of his own festivals but is also prayed to on almost all festivals and before any other god.

Some reasons why people pray to Lord Ganesha before praying to any other God include:

  • Lord Ganesh is the first deity to have taken birth. In the Ganpati Upanishad, a verse states, “Avirbhutancha sristyadau prakriteh purushaat param” meaning Lord Ganesha appeared even before the creation of prakriti(nature) and purusha(consciousness). This verse basically states the appearance of Ganesha after the destruction of the current materialistic world and before the beginning of the new creation. Now this naturally makes him the first choice for worship. You can simply chant the Ganesha Aarti before any other prayers to any other gods or you could even chant the Ganesh Vandana.

Ganesh Mantra – Om Gan Ganapataye Namo Namaha. Shri Siddhivinayaka Namo Namaha. Ashtavinayaka Namo Namaha. Ganpati Bappa Morya.

  • Lord Ganesha is also prayed to first because he brings happiness in everyone’s lives. He helps individuals in removing all obstacles from their lives. Lord Ganesha also provides one with wisdom, prosperity, and attainment.

  • Yogic Beliefs state that Lord Ganesha is first prayed to with the Ganesha Aartibefore praying to any other god. This is because rules Muldhara Chakra.According to this belief, human life is segregated in 2 parts – Materalistic and Spiritual and Lord Ganesha is the one who rules both these worlds.

You must chant the Ganesh Vandana from time to time only to pray to Lord Ganesha who can make life simple, happy, and prosperous.

It is also believed that Lord Ganesha is the divine power that controls the lives of all humans. And as a matter of fact, we all pray to Lord Ganesha on every festival but hardly did any of us know why! We have often chanted the Ganesha Aarti, Ganesh Mantra, Ganesh Gayatri Mantra, and the Ganesh Vandana but hardly do we know the meaning of any.
